WORKSHOP
TITLE:
The Nuts and Bolts of
Patient Simulators
Overall Description:
This workshop will instruct learners in the overall aspects of simulation
training and the essential operational knowledge of the Simulaids family of
simulators. Technical aspects of the course will include set-up, operation
and maintenance of the hardware and software systems of the PDA Stat and
SMART Stat products.
Detailed Topics:
-
Introduction
to Healthcare Simulation:
An overview of the training as well as an overall perspective on
simulation training.
-
System
Overview Hardware:
this section of the course will provide learners with a foundational
understanding of the hardware systems that operate the mannequins.
-
Basic
Operations Hardware:
Familiarization with various aspects of mannequin operation including
vital signs and physiological function manipulation, monitoring,
defibrillation and IV fluids.
-
System
Overview Software:
Familiarization with the installation and scenario editing features of
the Simulaids software.
-
Basic
Operations Software:
Learners will walk through all phases of using the Simulaids software
package. They will write their own basic scenarios, load them into their
handheld devices, enroll students, link students to scenarios, perform
training and download results back to a PC.
-
Maintenance
and Troubleshooting:
Basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting is reviewed.
Schedule:
Sessions will run from 9:00am to 4:30pm with lunch provided
Benefits:
-
Increase
your competence and confidence levels quickly
-
Achieve
the full potential of your mannequin
-
Improve
student satisfaction
Who Should Attend:
Designed for the new user of
Simulaids products, intermediate level Simulaids users and prospective users
who want a greater understanding of the full range of the simulator
capabilities.

WORKSHOP
TITLE:
Foundations of
Simulation Science
Overall
Description:
This workshop instructs learners in advanced concepts of simulation
performance and measurement. Advanced simulation can be a complex endeavor
with many moving parts. Achieving efficient flow and learning results requires
careful consideration of many details and advanced planning. This session will
prepare learners to direct and orchestrate successful simulation experiences.
Detailed Topics:
-
The
Four Steps of Simulation:
Review of phases of training exercise performance including-
pre-production, briefing, activity and debriefing considerations.
-
The
Art and Science of Debriefing:
You get what you measure applies to simulation and the process of
quality improvement. Structured debriefing is the key to turning practice
into learning. Learners will look at the tools and processes involved in
efficient debriefing. The use of video for quantitative debriefing will be
demonstrated.
-
Teamwork
Principles:
Communication and coordination are at the heart of teamwork in healthcare
in simulation. We will review the principles and practice essentials team
skills.
-
Tour
of the Simulaids R&D Lab and Manufacturing Facilities:
See how mannequins are made starting from initial concept in the lab to
molding and finally electronics assembly. See where the mannequins used on
the popular TV show Mythbusters are born.
Schedule:
Sessions will run from 9:00am to 4:30pm with lunch provided
Benefits:
-
Reduce
setup and administrative time
-
Improve
the coordination of your exercises
-
Increase
the learning effectiveness of your scenarios
Who should attend:
This workshop is for both new and
intermediate level instructors who want to be able to run their scenarios more
smoothly and efficiently. This
course is ideal for users of any brand of simulator.
