Inflatable Lungs
Comparison Kit
Dramatic demonstration kit provides an impressive, unforgettable,
hands-on demonstration of the texture and fragility of mammalian lungs,
as well as demonstrating that real lungs are not like rubber balloons in
a bell jar. Students can see and learn how lungs, that are very
comparable with their own, work by inflating and deflating them with a
pump. The simulated smoker’s lungs are stained realistically and have
a palpable simulated internal tumor and a physical simulated external
tumor. This inflatable lung comparison
kit is designed to demonstrate the effects of prolonged smoking. It utilizes
BioFlex preserved lungs to demonstrate to students the differences in color
and texture of smoker’s and nonsmoker’s lungs.

The kit includes an
inflation rack and tray; air pump; one pair of reusable, normal inflatable
swine lungs with guide; one pair of Simulated Smoker’s Lungs with guide; and
one section of dried swine lung to show internal anatomy structures including
arteries, veins, bronchioles, alveoli, and bronchi. The teacher’s guide
emphasizes the handling, use, and storage of the reusable swine lungs, and
includes a detailed illustration of internal anatomy. Supplemental information
about lung cancer, others smoking induced diseases, and air pollutants is also
included.
